Default Fuel Additives ????

Has anyone ever done a dyno pull on a merc. motor running an additive in the fuel? I keep hearing people talking about extra HP. but is it true? Is there proof?

Thats a good question Randy. How about higher octane fuel in a 525 efi? Will it increase hp?

I wanted to buy some Octane Boost to put in my fuel tank in the spring and give the gas some boost but the guy in the store said it wouldn't do anything to improve it. I don't know, maybe a test from a racing shop would settle it with some data.

Higher octane fuel alone will not necessarily increase hp. The engine compression ratio has to be high and the timing adjusted to maximize the increased octane.

High octane fuel will give no noticeable effect to your performance ,We used to run toluene ? not sure how to spell it ,as an Octane booster at about 25% when we couldnt get Av gas .

The lower the octane the faster the fuel burn, the higher the octane the slower the burn. So low compression motors need a faster burning fuel. The higher the compression the slower the burn for power

Has anyone out there ever actually dynoed a Merc 525 with different fuel supply's? I know Merc has said higher octane wont do anything for you but what about other additives? The dyno is the only real measure to validate this question.

I had a long conversation with the guy from SUNOCO Race fuels a couple of times.....and he said they could do something with a additive that would incress the profermance in the 525..I did not go into what they would do other then he said they could make a race fuel for the 525's...one of my issues was would it effect the 525 in any bad ways....I think he even said he called Mercury on this....he called me a few times to discuss it...but with us running at 93.5....I seen no reason to try to get anymore out of my engines....
