The second annual Grand Bahama Island Championship, presented by the Islands of the Bahamas, will bring more of the world’s most powerful boats to Grand Bahama Island on September 26-28, 2003. This will be the racers’ sixth race on the 2003 GMC Pro Grade Series APBA Offshore racing circuit. APBA Offshore teams will be competing for Pro Series points on Saturday and Sunday which will determine the season’s national title champions.
APBA Offshore’s new “stadium style” race courses provide fans and motor sport enthusiasts with uncomparable viewing of the racing action as the boats blast by a mere 100 feet from the beaches. These incredible racing machines can run up to speeds of 135 miles per hour for 50 to 90 miles depending on their classification. Spectators can view the races by water, or along the pristine beaches.
There will be plenty of excitement and fun for the entire family throughout the weekend. Grand Bahama Island offers fantastic entertainment, duty-free shopping and, of course, great fun at the casinos. The Race Village, where the powerboats are on display, will include food and drinks, event merchandise, and exhibitors.
"A weekend of APBA Offshore racing is more than being a spectator," said Michael Allweiss, Chairman of APBA Offshore Power Boat Racing LLC. "It’s an experience. You can get close to the incredible boats, talk to the teams and better understand the sport.”
