Default Racer questions

I need to get crew and race uniforms, where is the best place as far as price, quality, and order time?? I spoke with Speedwear but their prices are astronomical......

What kind of helmets are you guys wearing? I have always worn Arai but I do not see alot of racers wearing them.

For the guys that drive sit down boats.... Do you wear the offshore jacket or standard jacket from Lifeline? The difference being the length of the covering down the back of impact material. Are the standard Lifeline (short) jackets legal?

I have also noticed that some racers wear a neck collar, where do you get them and are they worth while?

Thats all my newbie questions for today!!

yes...SW is EXPENSIVE...but, they do good work.

i wear a custom made helmet for me...anyway, yes arai is a great helmet...buy it tight!...an i'll fitting helmet will blow off you!...seems like a lot of racers not only cheap out, but they also buy the one or two sizes too large!

jackets?....are you standing or sitting? this will make a difference...we standards in the donzi and yes they are legal. i also have the others as well.

i use a MX kidney belt as well,,,always!

the neck braces are too restricting for me, but obviously more protective.

make sure the seat is ABOVE your helmet.

use rain-x on your shields...use fog-x on the inside and your seeing glasses.

always feel free to call me if ya have any questions.

I believe you can get the neck collars from Lifeline also- don't forget to get bags to protect your equipment...

Pheonix did my uniforms and did a GREAT job as well a several other teams that I know of. When I had a problem it was quickly taken care of.
SRP (security race products) make very nice life jackets, there rep (Ben Hedrick) is a member here.
Arai make great helmets.

d-hlaw,
Give me a call. I live in Ormond Beach and I can discuss all of your options. 352-516-1026 is my cell. You can also go to my site and see some pictures of lifejackets and uniforms.

Ryan, Thanks for the reference...

Just my .02, as a new racer last year.

Ben took great care of us, we use his vests and his air system (enclosed canopy) and would recomend you use him for your safety gear. He races with us and understands our needs.

If I recall correctly he steered me away from the more expensive unit to a less expensive one that was actually safer for us.

My uni's came from Speedwear and he did a good, high quality job. The problem with the cost is the amount of embroidery that you need done with all of the APBA logo's and sponsors. That is what makes the uni's so expensive. Stay with an off the shelf jersey and you will same some serious $$'s.

Thumbs up

Get your uniforms from Speedwear. You have to pay for them but I'd rather pay top dollar than have some generic looking bowling shirt. Also Dave is a Shoei helmet dealer and can ship your helmets direct to Comp Com , which is the best communications system in my view - He also sells Lifeline jackets - BH
