Default needing some engine advice.

I posted this over in the technical section but I figured id throw it at the locals too and get some opinions.

Im wanting to do an engine upgrade on my boat but I dont want to do so much to it that i cant sell it when I get ready to upgrade in another couple of years. No one would buy a 2000 hp sunsation for $100k, word? Since ive already committed to cabin upholstery, wetsanding, dash panels, gauges, stereo system and trailer work, i dont want to sell and start over just to get the speed I want either.

Id like to be able to see 80's (ish), be RELIABLE and not have to change out drives. and stay on a beer budget. Im only askin for another 10 or 12 mph out of this boat and I think i could accomplish that for a fair price.

Anyone got any advice on who I should talk with about this thats local?

I have the 330hp 454 mercruisers with bravo 1's. Id like to also put on hydraulic steering.

Got any advice?

I would think the most reliable deal for you would be 500hp carbed if you can find a set... sell yours as a set. They would be great re-sale too. 10-12 mph is a lot more to ask on a beer budget. When you re-sell your boat, people will love the 500s and your drives will handle them fine... you start afroing the motors it will cost as much and you will always have a question when you go to re-sell it... Even a set of 502/415 mpis would give you and extra 180 horses... K I S S.... Keep It Stock Stupid

For the third time check with Marine Assault in T-town. He might not have what you want but it's worth a try because he is close, he does very good work, and he is reasonably priced.

I agree with Masher44, keep it simple. Go stock for best resale. Just don't do what I do!!!!

I have to put my vote in for BRAD SMITH!!!!!!!!!!

The guy at Marine Assault seemed like a good guy too, and I have heard nothing but good about him. His downside is that he can't R&R the engine and do all the work for you in one place. That is the main reason I went to Brad.

AND I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN HAPPIER!!!!

turn brad loose on your next boat and build some killer stuff.... brad is super reasonable and builds killer stuff but beer budget and engine building shouldnt be in the same sentence....

if you sell in a year (which you will) bump up the power with 502s and then build some killer stuff for the next one...
