chalk another one up for the Ford camp I just bought this mint 59k original mile 94 Eddie Bauer Bronco that was brought up in september from the warm Florida sun for the first time in its life. Its killin me to drive it in the snow but it really likes it . . . . it was certainly no place for this Chevy, I'm sure if I hadn't rescued it it would have probably broken down anyway and not be found till spring

Life is risky enough. Please buy a properly sized nylon strap that is designed for pulling and leave the chain in the garage.

Yes, chains are bad news if anyone knows what happens when you snap one....

Think of it like unprotected sex with prostitutes...you might get away with it 500 times but it only takes 1 time to ruin lives if something goes wrong. The fact is chains are not designed for shock loads, nylon straps are. Even those can fail so the safest way to use them is to hang something on the center of the strap to direct that energy toward the ground. The spotter standing on the side of the truck is in the most danger.
I spent most of my life running jeeps and trucks off-road as a hobby before performance boats. I've seen chains fail and even lost an acquaintance once when his chain broke and flew through his tailgate hitting him in the head.
