Fall is my favorite time to go to PIB when there are no crowds and no police. I'll never do it again though in my 22' boat because the water kicks up without warning. The first time I got caught in big water I managed to stay on plane most of the way back to the Detroit River but did stuff it twice (at low speed). The second time was honest 6-8s and no sense to it and that meant idling almost all the way back to the river with water coming over the bow over every wave, but not into the boat. It took hours before I was able to go on plane about 10 miles from the river. At least the river and Lake St. Clair were behaving.

I have had a few of these experiences leaving PIB over the years. Its always way more fun to leave the islands when you are hung over too, when all you want to do is get home and lay on the couch. I will say the Lake seemed to get a lot smaller once I stepped up to the 47' Fountain.
