Pictured Rocks
Has anyone took their powerboat out for a 1/2 day trip around pictured rocks?
thinking about staying/launching in munising. Wondering if there are any cool places to go and see/explore.

Used to go up there ship wreck diving about 30 years ago. Would bring my 1st boat which was a 18 ft. with a 140 Evinrude to run around in. Lots of beautiful scenery. You can run out around the islands. There are some caves in the rocks on the north side of the island, caused by the waters of Lake Superior. The water is cold, but crystal clear. You can see down 30 ft. if the water is calm and sunny. Munising was small and not a lot going on. At least that was what it was like back then. Had some delicious white fish, fresh off the commercial fishing boats. Those fishing boats are battle ready and could roll completely over and not miss a beat. A boat like yours will be quite a sighting up there.

The Pictured Rocks area east of Munising is a great place to spend a day or two. There is some great scenery all along that coast eastward to Grand Maris. Munising as a town is dull, almost like you're not wanted there, they seem to want the tourist dollar but don't want the tourist. Head west a bit and Marquette is significantly better. Watch the weather report for the big lake ! Ed

I am a transplant to the PR National Lakeshore are but grew up in West Michigan surrounded by Powerquests and Sabers. Grand Marais is on the East end of the Lakeshore with Munising being the western gateway with 91 octane available at both. Munising has decent launch on Munising Bay but that will be getting a complete reconstruct this year that will allow trailers up to 45 ft. and expanded parking options which will be ready to go in 2024. PRNL is great but the real gem is Grand Island which is the north side of the portected bay. The cliffs and beachs are imo better than PRNL and has little to no traffic even in peak season. Reviewing your charts are a must for this portion of Superior as there are underwater sandstone formations that will eat lower units. To the West of Munising you have the former home of the Little Ceasars Apache in Marquette so there is a little offshore/high preformance history in the area. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

Took my Velocity up there in 2021. Launched in Munising, it was a blast, I would love to do it again. I wish we had more time, I would have liked to see more sites. The bay is pretty sheltered and we were doing 80+. The tours don't go to the end and miss the falls. We stayed at the Roam Inn which is close to the launch and were able to keep the boat in their lot close to our room. Food at Tracy's in the Inn is 5 star as well.

We have boated it several times and is one of our favorites.
Launch in the west shore of Munising bay and you can travel around the island with many stops at waterfalls or nice beach on the east side.
Shipwrecks in the inner island bay you can see easily floating over or free dive down to them.
Can drive thru arch rock but be aware of the depth.
Miners river is always fun and can beach the boat there.
The water falls further down is a blast to put the kids on the front and drive them under the falls.
The dunes west of Grand Marais are huge and you will probably be the only ones there.
Grand Marais has a nice harbor and very welcome boaters all be it you will be the only ones there.
Weather is always the issue but if nice pontoon boats make the trip.

Speaking of Pictured Rocks:
The first stop on the aforementioned trip was Pictured Rocks on the Southern Shore of Lake Superior. We stayed and boated out of Munising Municipal Marina and it was spectacular. The water was incredible and rivaled home (Southeast Florida) in terms of clarity. A bit cold though: the transducer measured about 67 degrees for most of the trip at Lake Superior.
On Day 1 we did a nice little cruise after launching along the coast and that stopped over in Miner's Bay for a snack:

Snack time! Gotta love that fridge I installed last year LOL:

Day 3 was the day we finally got to cruise the length of the Pictured Rocks, taking in some of the waterfalls along the way and anchoring at Spray Falls for a freezing swim (forgot my wetsuit, ahh) and a nice, relaxing hour or so. Throughout the trip, I was blown away by the water quality of the Great Lakes. It is just a wonderful place to boat in the summer.
