Default swapping power 390s

Moving 625 ILMORs from a Velocity 390 that was a staggered set, transmissions with Konrad drives, to another Velocity 390 that is a side by side motor set up running XR drives. The ILMORs in the staggered boat ran around 83 mph ,having transmissions not only took power away it moved the motors to far forward in the boat ,making the boat run very flat. The new set up we are hoping to run low 90s, boat should be better balanced and able to get up on the pad bottom. Does anyone have any thoughts on our projected speed of low 90s for the new set up.

Go search out "Marginmn" he had a Fountain that we swapped the 625's to 710's' not staggered, he'll have a good idea of what you might expect. In fact you'll find someone has already asked him that question when you search by his user name.

Hey Trippin, how you been?

Yea I had a 2000 small-stepped 38 Fever with Imco extension boxes and -2 Imco shorties that I first put a set of Merc 525's in. Ran 85 out of the box with the 525's and I think a set of stock 32 Bravos. Probably could have squeezed a few more MPH with modified props. Swapped to a set of first generation Ilmor 625's and best I saw out of it was 89ish with Hydro PX5's. . Swapped to a set of Ilmor 710's and the best I saw was around 95 with PX5's. Sold the Fountain and put the 710's in a Donzi ZRC staggered and have run a best of 105 on the Palmaco river testing out of the Fountain factory with a set of 34 Herring Cleavers currently on the boat.

Thanks Marginmn ,

Good info ,a 39 Velocity would run about the same speeds with 525's 84-85 MPH . So maybe closer to 89-90 MPH . We should know in a few more weeks it should be ready for water test.

Well we have had the boat in the water a few times. We tested with standard XRs run around 83-84 MPH, 29 5 blade hydros. Then tried -2'' lowers same props boat rum 90-91 MPH was very light on fuel . Love how the boat feels with the ITS , I only had some short test time with the - 2" lowers, have them on know hoping to run this weekend running a new pair of 32 5 blade Maximus props. The most RPMs I could get was 5600, I think they red line at 6000 is there more to get ?
