Mel ,
Yeah wasnt really sure if the 300 cc runners were large enough for the 570CI . But with all the head work , I am sure the heads flow tons even with the small runners .It sure seems to run good -
What kind of speeds do you see with your 540 CI; ie, cam spec , compression, heads , weight etc..
I believ my boat is 5900 lbs .
The 650 hp is an estimate , what is your hp ?

Thanks

Jim,when i finished Vixen i took trk an trler and weighd it on the state scale, then loaded the boat and went back and weighd again and come up with 4600lbs,thats dry.At the time i didnt realy know how important weight was or im sure i could have taken out another 200lbs.Since then i put on larger k plains heavier seats, the large stainless lifting rings and a center console between the seats,so i thnk she gaind about 150lbs since then.In St Pete in 2003 we craind in,with all the gear on board,60 gal, fuel the scale said 5200 and somthing, the sun got in my eyes and i couldnt be sure of the last two numbers.Anyway she goes about 11 to 1200lbs less then you,and thats a lot on water.Im estimating hp also,i wont pay a $1000 for a dino run.OK,i used a merlyn 2 short deck with a 4.25 stroke just like yours, but a 4.50 bore.I first tried a set of 13.5 pistons but couldnt hold head gaskets past 5500rpms,so give up on that idea and went wiih 10.5 on 6.53 H beam rods and had no more problems. For heads i went with merlyn 345s because of cam i was going to use.I went with a Comp 714 714 lift at 266x274 on 108 centers and fed it with a edelbrook intake with a 1050 holly.MSD HEI ign.no box.Used a water crossover instead of circ pump and straight
hyd steering to stay away from their hp loss.We only raced this eng.one time with APBA and my driver turnd the key off on the second lap when i got to wild on the throttles to suit him. After the race i got into a pn match with the cheif ref. and mentiond my speed, got a DQ and never raced it again. As far as speed goes, somware between 88 an 91 on a racing speed o,really kind of hard to watch the clock and the water and drive too at around 90mph in a 27 open boat. Jim,by the way, i run a 28 bravo1 for pleasure and a 26labd if i want to get crazy,as my wife calls it.Also i went with a Rattler Bal. on the crank, that cured a lot of problems i was having with this eng.past 5800.Other then that one race we always ran a 502 or a 12 to 1 comp.509 with a hyd cam and 850 pro form carb, and MSD HEI ign.no box. Jim,you tauk of a ride,i can tell you when i started this project in 2000 i didnt no where it was going to end up or what was all going to happen.I dont run the old girl like i did then, but this old Magnum has given me more fun then i could have gotten with a new Cig and i hope all you have as much fun as i did, just keep it within reason, because it will go as fast as the size eng. your willing to use.I turn 70 next year and i can honestly say i wouldnt have missed the last 6 years no matter what all happend for anything, and would do it over in a second. BE SAFE Mel
