Why offshore races not here anymore?
I boat the upper Chesapeake Bay and was thinking when was the last time we had any offshore powerboat racing and not just hydroplanes in our local
area? I remember in the early1990s we had offshore races on the Chester River. Never forgot, Reggie Fountain told me the Chesapeake was one of his favorite places to run at the time. So why are we not scheduled here anymore close to Baltimore, DC and Annapolis?

There will be races in OCMD again this September. I really liked the races at Solomons Island. Not sure why there aren't any races there anymore. There were races in Baltimore many years ago. Late 90's, early 2000's? I guess to answer your question, there probably isn't that much value for certain places to have racing.

They used to race hydroplanes in the Potomac River up in DC - I went to the last race they had sometime late 1970s. Race got rained out and we were told to save our tickets for next year, I had those tickets until 1991 waiting for the races to return.
1966 Presidents cup in the potomac was known as Black Sunday, 3 racers killed.

It was told to me by many people that brenda wilmoths late husband was an integral part of putting together the Chesapeake challenge and the apba offshore races put on in the Chesapeake. Once he passed there was no longer a chief to do the tireless work needed to put on an offshore race. CBPBA helped with Solomon’s and Cambridge for those years but it’s hard to find people that will actually stroke the check for races. Also the pits were in sandy point and I’m sure they don’t want the hassle of races anymore.
Reggie always the salesman lol. while I’m sure He liked boating on the bay, I’m sure much like a Band playing a venue, every city was their favorite city.
