Sean Trainor here. Proud past owner of the original Warbird II aptly renamed to Gimme More SHelter in honor of its use against the IRS!!! Ha what fun.
James, nice to see your appearance here.
The early 38's had a small cockpit but I called mine the c%$t pit anyhow. Come on its offshore at its most rightousness! You could fit 10 people in the pit, with no wesson oil, coolers for the weekend party, airconditioniong 5000 watts of music that you could hear at 80 no problem, period.
Then when you wanted, the field was waxed and you were running low 90's.
Now I dont want to hear any BS from other boat ownbers the truth was laid out for many to see, with 10 bodies, party favors, twin 620's,bravos first at the dock.
Unless of course the bravo went bad. Then there was the 10 bodies, party favors, NorTech limo and a great ride home!
Life is good.
I am not talking about like Fountain owners, on a down wind day either! This boat ran in 7 foot seas when the speakers were falling out of the side panels, yet not a flinch of discomfort. How about Miami to Bimini in 50 minutes stopping for a midpoint cocktail?
I owned this boat for 6 years and like most boat owners had a love hate relationship. Loved the boat, hated the service from the engine builder. This was the reason Nor Tech began pumping their own power.
My hat is off to the Founders of the company, both are good time guys.
James, love to chat with you about my new digs in Bocas del Toro Panama...drop me a line at [email protected]
Terry, sorry I missed you when I dropped by while in Fla for vacation.

Ran 80mph on radar during test. We were disappointed. Later saw 84mph on radar. Veeery light boat, veeery fun in big water. Flew a lot! At least I didn't break stringers like my previous Scarabs LOL. All in all, a good boat. Still in service owned by Jeffrey Knight in St. Pete with oh, about a million hours on it!
Second was (duh) Warbird II. Built in 1997 as a 1998 boat. Hull #6. Had Innovation 620's on Bravos. Broke Bravos. Big surprise, duh! (Last Bravo boat I owned!) Boat was sold to Sean T., repainted as "Gimme Shelter" and jazzed up with a windshield and re-powered??? Might still be with him???
Very nice handling hull, even in big water on my lake (Atlantic). Being so light, about 8800lbs, you'll tighten your shorts occasionally, but the boat is quite forgiving. Comes out straight, lands staight. Good headroom, and all the comforts.
If you pay the right price, whatever that is, you'll probably be happy. Good Luck!
By the way, I have the May '96 Boating review. I could copy and fax it to you...

Sean & James,
Thanks for sharing your stories with us. Now, if we could only see some pics of the 38's!!! Seriously though, sounds like those 38's were tough boats and supplied some seriously good times.
Take care all,
Matt

I think the 38 blue NT that has been in the classifides forever has stand-up rear bolsters, which may hurt re-sale value.
I was on the boat pictured with the girls (sans girls) about two years ago...timing is everything. The boat was beat to death.
