You answered your own question........Get a wrench and tighten the damn thing and your oil consumption should stabilize.

The 525 as well as the 500EFI used a base GM 502 short block less a cam change. Nothing different than the cam, a 8 Qt oil pan, and they use a 30 PSI bypass valve. They also use a H rod which is good but its not on a floating pin. A cheesy setup considering you just paid a 20K upgrade. They use GM low tension rings that will literally break into pieces upon disassemble. The rings leak a lot especially after some hours. This happens in quite a few motors, some seal better than others. I would fix the leak but burning oil will not kill the engine, just a pain in the a$$ to put oil on it. Seal Power makes a replacement standard tension ring that will slow that down on the next rebuild. Get the file fit rings and keep the gap as recomended. I have seen gaps on GM pistons as much as .045-.050. They are not file fit rings. A file fit ring want a .022 on top and a .024 on bottom.
If you can get Merc to warranty, go for it. If not, dont sweat it until the rebuild at about 300 hours.
