Default looking at buying a 1997 28' heat

found a 1997 28' mcob non stepped haul for sale close by and had a couple questions. it has a fresh 468 with procharger with a 3 lbs pulley built by a local builder that has built motors for 20 + yeas. After breaking in owner found some water in oil and he is asking roughly about 10 grand less than what its worth. any ideas what it could be or if this is a good deal?

Thanks, Sam

I saw the boat listed - looks hammered...but if you can get him down alittle and rebuild the engine with no hick-ups it's not a bad deal

Personally I wouldn't do it and here's why. It's the non stepped hull. Second and most important reason, it's supercharged and already has issues... Third, it sounds like it has not been taken care of. To me, everything can be fixed, however overall condition really can't be for reasonable money and time. The money spent revitalizing would be much better invested in a cherry 2000+ that's a stepped hull and doesnt have a ticking time bomb for a motor.

When I bought my Rage I found a pretty good deal (I thought so at the time) 1999 28 Heat. However I didn't realize how much slower these boats are compared to the Rage with similar power. Then I dropped $175 to have it inspected and glad I did. Frickin laundry list of problems. I could have easily fixed said issues, however it wasn't worth it for what the guy would have reasonably lowered the price to. I ended up with a 1 owner mint, garaged Rage with a stepped hull. IMO it's worth it to find a cherry boat for a few grand more.

I tore that motor down this week..... That builder didn't have 2 weeks of experience....Had to completely re do and machine everything. The only good thing about that engine is that it has now been properly built.
