Nordic Gary Have not talked in a couple of weeks but finally got the boat dialed in! we hit 93 with half fuel and 2 people and it feels like a different boat! Now on to the next project, I want to do a custom windshield/windscreen kind of like what they have on the Outerlimits 42 GTX I just have to see who might be able to pull this off.

Very nice boat Sick!! Saw you at Havasu this past spring when you where on your maiden voyage.
Nordic offers a set of custom windscreens for the 35. I actually have them on my 28. They fold up under the windshield and are the same color as the windshield. They will spread apart further on the 35 because of the windshield contour.
You can get them from Karl Costner (Nordic's money man ;o) at Kal Customs. 510-651-8400 (that may be an old area code)

Way to go Sick, knew the boat would feel different once the 525's were singing. What was the problem?

Indy's correct the Viper is 550HP and 600 pounds of torque. I'm thinking the boat will hit 80 GPS with the Viper. The Viper's weigh much less than the 525 and torque in boats is the ball game.

Nordic Gary Where do I start? 1. cracked air intake (starboard) 2.hole in port header 3.bad double check valve on starboard gas tank (top of tank screw with no rubber seal letting air in) 4.coil ignitions and bad wires on both motors 5.reprgram computers 6.32 lab finished4 blade props 6.fouled spark plugs due to running rich(computers) So much for Merc quality control! $14,ooo worth of work and 5 weeks down time!

Sick, unbelievable, I've had zero problems with my 525's and really haven't heard of any. Did Merc take care of everything? 93 sounds great, to be honest I have not seen over 91 on my GPS.. I run on warm freshwater, assume salt helps.

Nordicheat,

The Viper power will be very close to the 525's cost. We will be testing the 35 with Vipers in two weeks and will post speed results. I anticipate with additional torque the 35 hull be respond nicely. (have to be careful with speed projections, Indy's watching) Not real sure about the 28 Heat hull. Saw very little top end difference between the 500 and 525 in the 28, however, the mid range improvement was dramatic.

There were some clearance issues to work around with the 35 Viper package but I also had to deal with this on my 35 with 525' (sweeper headers).

Will keep everyone updated.

The new 35/Viper package will be featured in all upcoming magazines.

LOL...I graduated from the Speed Police Academy last year
This is how I came up with my 28 Viper speed projection:
1 mph gain = 20hp
My top speed in the 28 with 425hp = 68 mph
550 Viper less 425 = 125
125/20 = 6mph roughly
6mph + 68 = 74-75

These are rough generalizations, I look forward to seeing what you get in real world applications. Should be a nice package. BTW...isn't the Viper engine longer than a stock BB Merc? Will that present an installation problem in regards the proximity to the back seat?

Thanx Indy, I actually appreciate your comments and find them very logical. This will be the first 28 application so fitting the Viper could be tricky. As you know there is a lot of room in the 28's engine compartment, I don't think it will be a big deal as the back seat can be moved forward easily. I added a 420 mega blower to my 1995 28 and had to move the seat slightly. My old 28 with the blower ran 83 GPS. It had a Bull Dog 540 470 HP + blower 100 HP = 570, your probably close. Not sure the step helped the 28 Heat at all.

What's up with the Buckeyes?? The good news is they are getting one of Cincinnati's top high school QB's next year. He's from Saint X, 6'5" 230 a real stud. Should help OSU's hopeless offense.

Gary...I'm glad to hear about possible help for the QB position. Zwik is a real bust this year. Hopeless offense is an understatement I better change my avatar

With the 28, there's also room to move up the front bolsters so when you move up the back seat, you don't squish the passengers. I moved up my front bolsters 3" and there was still plenty of room for the driver and passenger.

If the Viper is less weight than the Merc, my estimate might increase...but on the other hand, Dave (Nordic Heat) finds that the more weight in the rear of his 28, the better the performance...go figure!! Can't wait to see the results.

Keep us posted with the new Viper 28'

I've got a 2001 28' Heat with a 575sci. The boat ran 76 on GPS when I bought it last winter. With some prop work and the AZS&M boost kit (approximately 625 pshp now), the boat runs 80 on GPS. I also added air intake vents on the front lower edge of the engine hatch. There's no way that motor can breath through the factory vents below the hatch.
Has anyone played with an intercooler on 575 or other blower motors?
I'm thinking about a whipple low profile intercooler.
Regards,
Steve Z
