Default Barnegate Bay

Anyone do their boating on Barnegate Bay? I'm looking for vacation ideas for next year and wondering how the boating is in the Toms River, Forked River, BB areas??

What specifically do you want to know?

Hangouts, you've got Tices Shoal off of Island Beach State Park across from Forked River, or you've got F Cove up on the northern edge by Mantoloking. Restaurants/bars you have Capn;s Inn and Latitudes both on Forked River, The Cove which is right on the bay but very little dockage, and then Waters Edge which is right on the bay also, and Water Street at the head of the Toms River There is Dutchmans down under the LBI causeway and a few places in AC if you feel like making that run, which is usually pretty fun. The Bay is part of the Intercoastal so you can go as far as your heart desires, and/or your gas tank allows. If you want to get in the ocean and play, a fun run is to go out the Barnegat Inlet and run north in the ocean and come back in the Manasquan inlet and head back south in the bay. If you end up by Manasquan there are a couple pubs up that way too.

Tell me what boat you would be using and i can give you an idea. The entire bay is not much more than 7 or so feet deep except for the channels. That being said, although shallow a vast majority of it is navigable. There is some shoaling behind West Point Island and Ortley on the east side of the bay and there is some shoaling behind Island Beach State Park as well going down to and through the Oyster Creek channel going out to Barnegat. Early mornings up to around 11 the water is usually quite nice, after that boat traffic builds substantially as well as the winds will come up mid day into afternoon. When the above happens, it can get pretty choppy. If you are in a small runabout, it might get uncomfortable, if you are in something bigger, it is usually no big deal.

You would be/will be fine. It might be a bumpy ride, but even at its worst, in a 27 you can get where you want to go.
