NY to Canada by boat
HI All,
Can you cross the border by boat going from NY to Canada? I would just want to go to restaurants, etc, by water, for the day.
Looking to go from Clayton/Alexandra Bay
Have passports.
Thanks

You have to call 72hrs prior to inform border services that you are coming, reason for visiting and goods to declare AND THEN, either call in or visit a in person site report in to CBSA on the day of your arrival.
You will have to report back into American customs upon return to US.

I have never had to report in prior to arriving, I believe that is if you are showing up to a reporting center in person, or if you have more than 30 people. . Every time I have crossed, I have landed at a designated port, be it a marina, public dock, etc. When arriving in Canada you will need to call 1-888-226-7277. You have to provided all passengers passport numbers, and they may choose to inspect the boat or just tell you do go ahead. Where I am on Lake Erie, when reporting to the US, we use one of the camera phones set up at several marinas.
