Re: Another Sarasota teaser
Dave, I don't know if it is an epoxy hull or not, it's the Poker Runs America 47 Fountain with the staggered 1075 package. I picked the boat up from Mercury racing up in Fondulac, and took it home for a day, and the next day we left for Sarasota.
It just had 2 new engines put in it right off the dyno. Sad thing is that as soon as we put it in the water to put a little time on it the day before the run (friday afternoon) the stbd engine shut down as soon as we hit 3500 rpm. EVERY time !!! Bill Taylor had no idea what the codes were on the smartcraft computer, and either did I. Called Scott Shogren, and they told me what to look for. Got the engine fixed after 3 hours of working on it, about a minute before we had to leave the dock for the poker run.
Did'nt know for sure if it was fixed till we got to run the engine past 3500 rpm under load. Once out in the gulf when we put it on plane and dropped the green flag, Bill pushed the sticks to 5000 then eased them up to 57-5800, and no warning buzzers and no shut down.
We did most of the running around the 5000 rpm range which was in the upper 90's. I seen the GPS at 109 a few times and I believe we were turning around 57-5800. Bill says the boat runs low teens with the Merc props, but with the Herrings on he has seen 118-119. We had the Merc props on.
The water was flat and boring. The only waves were from other boats.
Some of those big cats that passed on the left, were pushing 150-165. I was in a few of them at the lunch stop, and hit the recall on the GPS and seen 160+ on quite a few of them, Ronnie and Chuckie's Maxed Out, Vinnie and Frank Barbarino's BAD, Joe's Loose Cannon, Gino's Lube Jobs, to name a few.
I've got more vids, but I have to see what Poker Runs America magazine wants to use for their video. Once they use whatever footage they want, I'll post some more.
Got a ton a stiil shots from my camera and Bills, but then again, as soon as they use what they want for their magazine article, I'll post the rest.
