Do they still drag race on Houghton lake??? We used to race there from 1985-89. Hav'nt been up there since we quit. In 1989, up in Minauqua Wisc. we took the Pro Stock title in the finals with my 87 Polaris 660. Added some weight, and took 2nd in heavy Mod with the same sled. Ran another 86 Polaris 600 in the Improved stock class, and went all the way to the finals, where I over heated the engine while waiting for my opponent to get their sled running, and by the time we were ready to stage, I could see my temp guage really climing. The sled bogged off the line and I could never make up the distance.
Next year I sold the Pro stock sled and enclosed trailer, and kept the Improved stock one for lake racing local events and river racing.

The last time we raced there, it was 35 BELOW 0 during the day with the sun shining.

Re: The North Woods 1/25-1/28
my buddies raced it there for over 5 years, quit 2 years ago, finally figured it out that it was a young mans sport. they were called x-rated racing and were all dang good. should have been semi-pro class but always stole honors in the sport class. they did the northwoods challenge for years, raced in greyslake there almost every weekend. Fun to go and watch, now we all just go up north and off trail and out west several times a year. The race team bought an old bus and painted it like a log cabin and cut a door in the back for the sleds and drive to colorado once a month. flat screen tv's, satellite, frig, pizza oven, you name it.
