Hey Joe, congrats on the new boat !!! Like I said before, those 402's have a beautiful cabin, the wife and I love that woodgrain look.
Back in the mid 80's a friend of mine from Wisc. bought a 402 new, put in some 540's and SSM III's and we seen some mph's close to 80. That was a real wave crusher, and very comfortable to run in the big water. The way the throttles are positioned with the cushioned pad behind it to rest your forearm on, makes it a pleasure to run in big water.
Boat looks real, real clean. The only thing I don't like, is that radar arch, because it takes away from the look of the lenght of the boat. I think the boats look longer and sleeker without it. If it was mine, I think that's the only change I would make. But then again, if ya really like it, they do have some advantage to em, like having a place for the girls to swing from while you're anchored in the pen. LOL
What blowers do you have?? Are those the 177's or the 250's??

Compression 8.5:1
Roller rockers
Demon 1025CFM blower carbs that been worked
weiand 177 blowers

Im really up in the air about the arch. I always liked the "retro" look of them, especially with the square lights like the MV scarab had lol On this boat the arch is mounted on giant hinges, so you can fold it down to fit under low bridges or in a garage I guess. I do admit the boat looks longer for sure without it. One thing I like about my buddies scarab's arch, is that while cruising at night time the little done light really lights up the cockpit area nicely. Chances are it will come off though eventually.
Frank, how did your buddies cabin hold up in the rough waters? Thats the only thing I worry about it all those cabinets and compartments getting trashed.

Joe, Herbs boat was an 1986, and we were running it from new till about 90. The boat is pretty heavy, and with that said, it handled the rough stuff on lake Mich pretty well.
I don't care what kind of boat you're running, when you're out in that rough snotty stuff, there's ALWAYS gonna be some screws that find a way to work themself loose. Guaranteed, and when someone says that they never have any screws come loose......................they're lieing !!
Even with that 46 Cig last summer, I was tightening rub rail screws, cabin and dash screws, every week. If you stay after them, they won't get bad. It's the guys that run week after week, and never bother to check for stuff that loosens, that have the problem with broken cabin doors, and all kinds of stuff falling apart down below. That Formula is a very well built boat. Probably built more solid than the boats they build today. You're gonna love it.
