I did that with a 19' ft Laser during a radar shootout. Let go somewhere around 70+ and the boat made a hard right hand turn throwing me under the deck. Glad I had my Lifeline on. It took most of the impact. I wasn't so lucky with the gearcase. It's on the bottom of Barnegat Bay.

Just a crazy thought, you might want to remove the fixed tunel tab, leave the brackets though for turning. It might help the attitude of the boat due to the lesser HP. I talked to Spark tonight but didn't think about it till I hung up with him.
