OPA - Brick - Final update
Hello Race Fans,
This is the final update for this weekend's Brick Summerfest Offshore Grand Prix so please read carefully. It looks like we'll host about 30 race boats for this first race of the OPA season, so it should be an exciting day. Let's hope for calm (but not too flat) seas and bright sunny skies.
On Friday, the dry pits will be set up during the later afternoon and officially open for business at 5pm. The dry pits are located on Rt 70 at the old Food Town parking lot. See www.njoffshore.homestead.com/map.html for a map of the area. This page also has a downloadable file with all the volunteer boats listed with their assignments. Security will be on hand Friday night and Saturday night in the Dry pits to keep the rigs safe from probing eyes and hands.
On Friday night all racers and volunteers are invited to attend an open bar party sponsored by Corona at Jenkinsons from 7 to 9pm. Volunteers can bring one guest with them to the party.
Saturday the Dry Pits will be open for registration starting at 9am with a mandatory drivers meeting at 11am. The rest of the day will be filled with activities provided by several local vendors, antique car clubs and the Hell on Wheels daredevil stunt show. The stunt show will be performed at noon, 2 and 4pm. Throughout the day, the girls from www.njbikiniteam.com will be on hand to promote themselves and the 5pm Bikini Contest.
At 6pm on Saturday, all volunteer captains must attend a meeting in the dry pits where assignments and flags will be handed out. After the meeting, everyone is invited to stay in the pits and enjoy a BBQ supplied by one of the local fire departments.
Sunday is Race Day, so here's the schedule of events.
At 7am, all racers must be at Haven's Farm on Herbertsville road in Brick for physicals to be followed by a drivers meeting at 9am. From there, anyone needing race fuel can go across the street to the Herbertsville Fire Training Center to fuel up with high octane race fuel. Fueling will only be from 8am to 10:30am. From there, its time to get the boats in the water at the Manasquan River Yacht Club. The cranes will be in operation from 8am to 4pm on Sunday only. There is also a ramp and travel lift available should you need it. Ramps and travel lift fees apply, as they are not part of our normal operations.
All VIP and Turn Boats must be at the Wharfside by 10:30am to pick up scorers and guests. All Medic and Dive boats need to be at the Coast Guard Station at 10:30 to pick up their medics and divers. All volunteer boats need to be ON STATION in the ocean by 12:30 for a 1pm start.
NEEDED: ONE PERSON TO STAY AT THE WHARFSIDE ALL DAY TO ACT AS A MARINA MANAGER. PLEASE REPLY TO THIS EMAIL IF YOU CAN HELP AT THE WHARFSIDE.
At 11:45 SHARP the race boats will begin to leave the Wet Pits and parade up the river toward the inlet. We will be "Blowing the Inlet" at full speed at 12:30 in anticipation of a 1pm start.
Lap Counts.
P1 - 18 laps for 81 miles
P2 - 16 laps for 72 miles
P3 - 14 laps for 63 miles
P4 - 12 laps for 54 miles
P5 - 10 laps for 45 miles
Once the race is over, the winner of each class will pick up a checkered flag from the S/F boat and then proceed to the Winners Circle at the Wharfside. All other boats must return to the pits. Only the five winners will be allowed into the Wharfside after the race.
All volunteer boats will return their flags to the flag retrial boat (21' Donzi) that will be stationed on the ocean side of the railroad bridge.
Once the race boats are out the water, they will proceed back to the dry pits where engine flushing is allowed and water is provided for flushing and wash down.
At 4:30 on Sunday, the awards will be presented at the dry pits.
Dry Pits close at 6pm on Sunday.
Thank you for your participation as a Fan, Racer or Volunteer. Without you, these races wouldn't be possible. Let's have a safe and fun race.
See ya at the races,
Ron
