Post History of the single 28'

I know that the 28 has been around in a twin setup for a while but when did the single engined boats start being produced and in what popularity compared to the twins? IRONMAN

A Pantera 28 with a single sounds like a nice setup.

Hey Chris,
The first 28 single engine boat was built by my dad in 1979 with a big block with approximately 600 hp.We primarily did the 24 with a single engine and the 28 with twins over the years.Motors have come along ways with more power and added reliability. In the early 90s we began building more and more 28 with single power. In 1992 we built a 28 called Tunnel Vision. It was powered with a single 800 HP efi Hawk engine. This boat went out in APBA B-class and won many races beating twin engine v bottoms in the class. It finished that year winning a championship and many races. In 1994 Mercruiser began to offer their HP 450 Big block package with a Bravo 1 drive.I built a 28 with this power and displayed it at the Annapolis Maryland boat show.It was very popular and performed well. And the rest is history. We build the 28 now with single, twin or outboards.I hope this will answer your question.Regards, JO
