Default Prop selection

We are pushing about 450-475 HP (502). At this time I have a 26 pitch Bravo I prop. I have been at 70 mph, and have more room to go. We start to walk a little, and just need to get use to this. Should I stick with this prop, or should I throw on the 25 P Mirage plus prop I have. What would be the differences in speed and performance.

do you know what max rpm your engine is rated at?
try the 25, you've got nothing to lose.
if you start bangin the rev limiter, go to the 27.
but the 25 will give you an idea of how the boat w/ handle w/ a mir+. what tabs you have?
i like the mirage+ better than a b1, but thats just me.

also, take the boat out w/ the current prop, and note speeds at certain rpms, so you can have a baseline comparison w/ the other props.

You will see a rpm increase of 100-200rpm if you spin the 25p Mirage plus vs. the 26p Bravo 1.
On my 1989 24' Pantera, the boat was about 2mph faster with the 3blade.
Handling was good with either prop, however my boat only topped out at 65mph.
I do also run both props on my 1997 24' Super and the 3 blade is the same 2mph faster. The handling above 70mph is much better with the 4 blade on my Super.

What RPM's are you turning the 26? What's the optimum range for your motor? Is it basically stock?

I'm going through the process of trying a couple props. Mine had a 23" Mirage on it when I bought it and so far it's still the fastest but I want to bring the R's down a bit, because there around 5800-5900 with the 23. I've now also run a 22" Hydromotive OT-X and a 24 OT-X, which are very similar to the Bravos. The 22 was too small and the 24 works pretty good, but the motor wouldn't quite pull over/through the hump. (The 22 & 24 were almost 700 rpms different) I think having it labbed will fix that. Though the efficiency at cruise it far better than the 3-blade.

I've got virtually no chine walk at speed, however this boat is nothing to drive compared to my Allison.

What's up Ziemer - Go onto Sream & Fly and look under Buy & Sell Hulls up to 20 ft - Look at 1 Sweet Mirage River Racer for sale - Go down towards the bottom of page 1 - You will see the pictures of my Mirage - Hope that you and your family are doing well...

Put my new 28 Pantera in the water last weekend - All that I can say is "What a Blast"

Yeah, I saw the pics of your Mirage the other day. That thing looks new. I wouldn't budge off your number, there's not many nice ones left.

Glad to hear you got the new boat in, we'll be out on Sunday in ours watching the races here in town.

ziemer.... you still feel the need for 280s?
you're right... the sense of stability is all relative, especially coming from one of them there pocket rockets.

I couldn't imagine wylie's mirage on the LI sound.

courtholl, test test test. you'll find what works best.
ziemer, i bet a 25 lab mir+ would be sweet!

The 280's can wait awhile, I've got some other priorities. I want to upgrade the stereo a bit and I also want to get some indicators for those tabs. Yeah, I've been checking on Ebay here and there to see if I can steal a 25 Mirage.
