Default insurance on a 28

Who's everyone using for insurance on their Sport? State Farm quoted me $600 / year but they won't write any new policies for my area due to hurricane losses. The next best price I've found is $1570 / year w/ Progressive. Is this the going rate?

Thanks,
Dan

I wouldn't have anything to do with progressive. Do a search - there are a couple of bad stories. When I was getting quotes - I was getting around $600 for a 28 single and around $1,400 for twins.

I've got progressive and I'm at about $700/year. No layup. As I understand it, how you interact with progressive has a lot to do with your relationship with your agent. I would strongly reccomend contacting Empower Marine (aka Insurance God here on OSO). They got me a quote of under a grand on a Skater! Insurance God is also an avid boater, a newly minted Pantera fanatic and I had breakfast with him on Saturday...

I've got my 24' with Progressive. It's just under $800 for the year. I've got USAA for everything else, and Progressive does their boat policies.

If you have Progressive and like them then don't drop your policy for any reason. I just got off the phone w/ my local Progressive rep and she said that all new boat policy prices have increased dramatically. The existing policies are grandfathered in and will only see minimal yearly increases.

No kidding! I got a quote of $600 on the Pantera from State Farm but when the agent sent the policy in it got kicked back by State Farm because they are not writing any new policies in my part of Florida. I've called a few people and I still don't have a quote less than $1,450.
