Sorry red roar didn't answer you Q a bravo boat is a boat with a Bravo drive on it yours has/ had a Volvo .
And a small block motor in your case a 5.7 most run the big block 454/. 496 / 502/ or twin out boards .
But as you say you just want some fun the small block will work fine for you even better if you hook it up to the Volvo duo prop drive ,plenty of them knocking around now and will get that 24 out the hole fast .

ah ok thanks paul. as i havent bought the engine yet, i go Tuesday, if we bought a 454 would that all physically fit exactly the same and would the gearbox mate up and be adequate or am into a whole new ballgame with it.
i am more than likely going to keep it stock as it was but interesting to know when i am there. so the jump is straight from the 350 to the 454 ?
are there any simple enhancements i can do to the small block like heads or something.
russell

I would stick with the small block , a 383 stroker would be better , are you keeping the 280 Volvo drive if so not sure if it would last too long behind a big block. Wait and see what others on here say with more knowledge than me .

The Volvo 280 will be just fine behind a 454!
My 77 had a 280 and the previous owner had a warmed up 426 HEMI in the boat for 30 years. Zero drive problems in all that time.

Also, a big block chevy will bolt right in place as the bellhousing and engine mounts are identical.

yes we are keeping the volvo drive so i dont want to put anything in that would rip that to bits. i dont know what would marry up to it and be compatible.
when done this boat will then be living a long way from home (2 hour flight) so it is more a combination of reliability with power i need.

if you don't really care if it only does 55 instead of 70, then leave it as a 350 or 383, which is the same engine with a 1/4 inch longer stroke. same size, weight, all brackets, etc. i just assumed it was merc alpha...

i am not sure what a bravo boat is but i am in the UK an this boat is a long way from home. we cant get boats or parts so easy here. this might be the only 24 in the UK
actually the orig hull that the mold was pulled from is sitting in a boat yard somewhere in england. i forget the name of the yard. it is a shame somebody doesn't resurrect that one. it is the ONLY 24-7 Magnum ever made. apparently they built the mold out of formica countertops from what i have heard. and volvo stuff may be a lot more common and easier to find your side of the pond.

ok sounding like the drive isnt going to be an issue then thanks.
so an estimate of speed works like what with a 24 ?
350 would do 55
383 would do ??
454 would do ??

this would help even if a best guess
