Default 65 MPH on Gary M new 24 with single 250 Yamaha

Hey Guys,

I just delivered Gary M. new 24 Pantera powered with the new 2003 Yamaha High Pressure Direct Injection and got 65 MPH with almost a full tank of gas.

The boat really surprised us how well it handled and accelerated with a Single 250 outboard.

We played around with diffrent X dimensions on the bracket and props.

The boat turned great, and he was very excited to do some boating this weekend with his new toy.

This is Garys second Pantera since his first 24 was powered with a single 454 Magnum.

I will post pics. later of the final product how it turned out.

Regards, JO

Hey Guys,

These are a few pictures of Garys new 24 Pantera powered with a single Yamaha 250 2003 model High Pressure Direct injection.

I got 65 MPH out of it which I felt was great speed with this power. The boat accelerated great and shot up on plane with ease.

Default PERFORMANCE REPORT

Jo is right. The boat is very fast for a single 250. The new 2003 Yamaha HPDI motor is 3.3L , 1000 PSI direct injection and weighs 545 pounds. Jo tried a 23" Mirage Plus and a 25" Mirage Plus and the top end was about the same but the 23" provided super fast acceleration and mid-range punch and WOT at 5700 - 5800 RPM. This boat turns sharper than my old 24 / 454 Mag / Bravo 1 / 24" Hydromotive 3-blade. It is about 3 MPH slower at the top. I used to drive a small Allison and this Pantera can trim out just like an Allison. The 250 is heavy and set back 18". About 2 feet of keel pad is all it rides on in glassy water. The paint is great and the interior is comfortable. The rigging is perfect and that makes me most happy. The boat is quiet and can idle all day or WOT all day. It uses 8 gph at 3500 rpm and 20 gph at WOT. The trim is in the throttle. If you like outboards and need more speed, a boat like this with a 300 Merc will probably run 73 mph. The storage in the back is huge. The bracket has a three step swim ladder. I will post some pics soon. PS: when Jo was driving, it was scary fast at max trim, flying light. GaryM

Default THIS WEEKEND

This weekend was supposed to be the big first day out. The hurricane is coming and I may have to go out in high seas. If it is raining and lightning, I will wait but it will be difficult. I will be interested to see the rough water performance with a lot of weight on the back. The aired out sound is really awesome at 5800 rpm with a big rooster tail. Stay tuned. GaryM

Default SPLASH

This weekend was the first official family day out. It was windy and rough and the boat handled great. At neutral trim it ran a little bow high and ate up the chop. With positive trim in calm water it was all air and flying. The guy at the gas pump was bug eyed. The 250 HPDI was so quite that he thought it was a 4-stroke. I took some pictures and will post them next week. The seats are comfortable and protect us from bumps and bruises. See you on Biscayne Bay. GaryM

Gary, Nice setup! Great performance out of a single O/B.
I think you're on to something. I like the versatility of the O/B plus I think the Yamaha is the way to go for reliability.
Now, when will Yamaha come out with something to challenge the 300X Merc. Hmmm?
