Default Need some help with set up

34' Phantom - 500's with Whipples and intercoolers.

We are still dialing in Pipe Dream with the Whipples and the 30P Hydromotives aren't doing it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kirk

You have much more hp than my father's boat, but our drives are probably 1" to 2" higher than Pipeline, and the other 34's Will built. We spin 32" Bravo's at 5100 rpm. The motors are 502/415+'s with Gil exhaust, stock cam, Pro-Topline cylinder heads, ECU reprogrammed by Tyler Crockett, and larger flame arrestors. Have you tried a set of 34" or 36" Bravos? How many rpms are looking to spin?

We have tried, 28", 30" and now the 32" Bravos. Would like to try a set of labbed 34" Bravos. Keep testing, it will come together.

I think the Bravos are the way to go for this set up. We'll try 30's to verify the handling first and move up from there.

Maybe a shorty lower is in order too!

I think a shortie lower would be a huge benefit. If I told you how fast my father's boat runs with this power you would think I am full of sh*t. Before he bought this boat, if someone told me it would go this fast with the power that is in it, I would have called them a bold faced liar. But then again, my father has done a hell of alot of testing and improvements with the boat (engine part upgrades/tweaking, minor bottom work, prop testing).

Once you get the props sorted out, then drive height figured out, you should be at the 100+ mph door.

Here is something to consider..

We had ran the 30" Bravos last season (before engine/exghaust upgrades he did over the winter) until my father bought a new set of 32" Bravos. The right engine would always run harder than the left engine (5100 rpm versus 5000/5050 rpms), spinning the 32" props. The initial thought was that maybe the injectors weren't clean, or maybe there was a bad injector, or fouled plugs. The injectors were sent out cleaned, and the poor/bad looking injectors were replaced. Still the same rpm difference. Both engines would not turn the same rpm at WOT.

So today we put the 30" props on the see if maybe the 32" props were not the same, even though they were bought brand new. Sure enough the both engines were turning the same rpm 5300 rpms early in the day, and 5350 rpms at the end of the day (less fuel) with the 30" props.

Now we just have to get the 32" props matched. To make them both turn 5100 rpm with the current set-up.

How have you made out with your prop testing?

There may be some more engine work done over the winter so the the existing 32's may be replaced with 34's (possibly).

We haven't been on the bay many years though we have been up there by car to Pt. Pleasant twice in the past two weeks, and will probably be at the race this upcoming weekend (by car).

That 34' in Brigantine is well cared for mechanically (we know the guy that does the engine work, and he is extremely fussy -detail oriented, and exacting in his work). I would check that boat out if it is in your price range.

I have no idea of what happened to the 34' in Maryland. Keep looking Bernie, one will surface (maybe)

Done boating for this season as of today; the Phantom was running 5050 rpms on both motors @ 88 mph, with the 32" props. Would like to try a set of labbed 34" props. Maybe next season..........
