just which day is this going to take place sat or sun and are there any shallow spots to watch out for

Its sounding like Kunkels cant be there til Sunday.
I booked a room today at the Wingate on Pulsar Place for saturday night. There is an Extended Stay Inn beside Quaker Steak on Luvar (or sumthin like that) and a Best Western at the Polaris exit thats one exit away from the 36/37 exit that Alum is on. There are a few hotels at that exit but the locals told me last year that these at the Polaris exit are safer and better patroled.

I've only been at this event one time and it was on a Sat. that year. There seems to be some confusion over what day it's going to be on this year. So is it Sat. the 8th. or Sun. the 9th.?

Party on the 8th, boatin on the 9th. Saturday was mentioned first but that was before we realized Kunkels couldnt be there til sunday. Since they are a big part of the show, we'll go when they can be there.
