That sucks. It would seem easy enough to get around though. Rather than a registration fee or "hand fee", you would be essentially donating. The cards and the event are free........I've seen / participated lots of charity events run this way.

Why do we need judges then -IF they don't JUDGE anymore - lets just process it through a computer and fire all of them. Judge have the power to make the call for the better of the parties - This is so typical of how our system works. Oh while I am on my soapbox - "Justice is EXPENSIVE" not our Right.

Re: Charity 'poker runs' will have to fold
this is simple, have the fee for dinner, shirts, and the like, then have it "no purchase necessary to win, send a SESE to ADDRESS OF CHOICE for your free playing card".
The prises are donated by sopnsors, so you have a first place sponsor, second place sponsor, etc, etc, etc. Then the prize money is fixed, and with no purchase necessary to win, it is not a game of chance, it is a true giveaway.
Of course they would have to send five leters, and someone in the backgorund can make sure the cards sent to one particular address is "fairly drawn form the respective pool", and then when they want to see who won, well you never really know when the drawing will be held on the day of the run, so they need to hang around the marina all day, and of course there is no requirement to make sure those who did not pay are not seperated into a unique group, cause of course they did not pay for the meals and events and all.
So the result is they have to send 5 seperate, registered letters, with a letter and a SESE with say $3.00 postage, and get a hand that in all lieklyhood will not win, and then set around all day being chastised by the boaters watching them have fun and enjoying themselves, to see if the cards sent to them, which happened to be sent by the same guys who organized the poker run, won a hand.
Problem solved....
