Go to this webpage where you will find a menu on the left for all locations worth knowing in the Hampton Roads area. At the bottom of the menu is Portsmouth City park. Click on it then use your scroll wheel to zoom in/out. Click on the blue marker, then click on get directions to from/to here. Once in the water stay within the channel markers as it does get shallow outside of it in some areas near the ramp until you get to the bridge.

seems like it stays shallow all the way to the bridge, is the channel to the right near the ramp? did not notice any markers near the ramp until after the first bridge.

I forget exactly since it's been a while, but if no one gives an experienced answer on here just ask one of the locals there at the ramp who use it week in, week out and observe other boats coming and going.
