I have no opinion but I will share the following that I know:

We made the trip to LOTO in 2007 and had a great time. I think Darrell did a fantastic job on the 2007 event and it was a lot of poker run for the money. I do not believe he even broke even on that event but did well for a first timer. Covering insurance and the helicopter alone were large expenses.

Most of you know that our boat was simply not ready last year and even though we wanted to attend we simply could not. Darrell contacted me a few weeks before the event and said he was having problems because TBM had come in and announced a date before his and many were going to that even instead os his poker run and had told him they could not afford to attend both events. Bottom line is he had made a lot of comments and was on the hook for $$$ and attendance was looking bad. He asked for my help in any way possible and I contacted as many people as possible behind the sceens to try and drum up some interest and help him get more boats there. There was not much else I could offer or do for him.

Bottom line is if I had to bet he lost a ton of money on that event.

With that said if you don't make a profit there is simply NOT money left for the charity. Just like in our local Harley Chapter we advertise events for charity but we MUST cover expenses first and then give with what is left over. Last year we had two events that did NOT cover expenses. That is simply a fact and the way it is. If the people don't come out and support the event you don't make any money. Good intensions don't always produce results.

Over the years here on OSO I have seen this same thing happen with some of the BIG premier promoters.

In the case of the prize money for the winner I don't have any idea what did or did not happen. I think it is the responsibility of the promoter to get with the winner and make every effort to honor the commitment or come to an agreement based on the circumstances that works for both parties.

Again Darrell always treated me right, always demonstrated a real passion for the sport and I truely believe that he had the best intensions of putting on a great event. The whole tour just was too much for him or anyone at this time in my opinion.

Jeff you have fair questions but if the money was not there then what do you expect of him? There are many other threads on OSO of similiar situations.

Can you answer these questions for me?

He did have the event right?
Did everyone enjoy it?
How many people turned out for it?
Did he cover expenses?
Did he make a profit?
Did he talk to or work out anything with the winner based on the total revenue in regards to the pay out?

There are always too sides and I find it had to believe that he went into this with the intensions of cheating anyone. But Hey I have been wrong before.

Just my opinion.

Dock, all this means nothing to me...

I asked 2 simple questions hoping that someone here on the board would know the answers too, because when the same questions are asked on PBP the posts get deleted and the thread gets locked so to me there is reason to believe that there was some sort of FOUL play involved otherwise why not just answer the questions....

I was there and saw the winners handed their checks for the winnings. I also saw the RC boat that was won, given to the winner.

First thru third place winners were Nate Meyers, Dennis Klien and Randy Kelly. Payouts I believe was $1000.00, $500.00 and $300.00

I don't know if the charity was paid, or if there was any funds left to pay. I know everyone enjoyed the food and band. They also received the Event DVD and the rest of the SWAG.

I do know Darrell did not make anything on the event. BTW I just saw where the orignal winners post was - http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/m...th-26th-4.html

It sounds like the is some bad blood back there and someone is trying to bash people without standing behind their words.
Here are the people who were registered, if any of them has questions, I'm sure Darrell would answer.

Jeff,

I simply told you what I knew in hopes that it would help. If it means nothing to you then fine.

It appears by the other post that Darrell did the right thing by those that did attend.

You can go back to throwing him under the bus now.

I don't know if he did or not.

My point is if he did NOT then there would NOT be anything for a charity.

Only he knows the answer to that question.

If I had to bet knowing how expensive these are to put on I would bet "NO" that he probably lost money again like the year before.

Just my opinion

Sorry BUT

I understand and agree with what you are saying.

My question regarding profit was simply did he make any money above the cost of putting the event on?

If so he should have paid the charity. If not then I can see where the charity would not receive any money. It's just that simple.

There are many promotors that do this for profit and if that is how you structure your event then I have no problem with that. If you do it for charity and cover expenses then you should give the additional money to the charity (profit = donation).
