Default Powerplay vs Concept

Any thoughts on which is a better buy assuming similar pricing, similar power and six year difference in age (concept being six years newer).

ben on a concept once and it's a very pretty boat but you could feel every ripple in the water " very light layup "
for a flat lake it would be fine but not for ocean .
powerplay will be a heavier more solid boat . slower with same power but will be better in the rough stuff ,owe and also not as pretty

I love power plays and have a bunch of friends that have both concept and the power plays. I got out of a go fast boat and decided to go with a center counsel. I looked at both the latitude and the concept and did research for quite awhile etc. My concept which is a 36 (33 bow to stern then have the platform) rides just like my buddies 33 power play. I was always impressed with his ride in the bay and in the ocean. I have the bigger tabs on my concept which I would recommend. It likes to run faster just like the power play and get on top of big water. The apache hull (concept 36) and the power play mold are very similar and good rough water hulls that like speed. Lands nice and doesn't bang and beat you up. Being that I have been on both in the same conditions tough decision.

Both are nice boats from the outside. If you want perfection, and a smooth ride you buy a Powerplay. The build quality is where it's at. Hope this helps!

I agree. Actually, I don't think it's a fair comparison. Eye the reflection of light along the side of a Powerplay and you'll find angles, curves and lines that are absolutely perfect. Then, look at the finish of the gelcoat. It's flawless. Even on a 20 year old PP.

I've looked closely at the new Concepts at the boat shows and can't find a straight line anywhere. Everything is crooked, with waves and inconsistency. They cover up this mess with fancy paint jobs! If the finish is a reflection on the laminate, I don't want to think about hitting a wave the wrong way in a concept!

Your hull and deck are the foundation. Without a solid, well built base, no amount of paint, fancy bezels or pattern stitched interiors are enough to separate me from my better judgment.

Switching topics for a moment... one of the reasons I don't follow this forum very often is because companies like all-star marine promote themselves every time they get a chance. Let's be perfectly clear here... just because Latitude bought the PP CC molds, doesn't mean they can lay-up a boat like the original guys at Powerplay. Boats are all made from the same materials, but the people that build them are VERY different.

XSNSX,
Team Latitude agrees with your comparison 100%. Powerplay built some of the best boats in the industry. Latitude's intention is to carry on the quality in craftsmanship that these molds deserve and we believe we are doing so. Not sure if you have seen a Latitude in person or had an opportunity to go for a ride on one but we feel the boats are first class. If you have not had an opportunity to see them in person please be or guest either in Miami or Baltimore at anytime. Latitude will be successful because of Team Latitude's determination and build quality. Allstar Marine does utilize Offshore Only to promote Team Latitude because the patrons of this website are knowledgable and prominent in the boating industry. In my opinion the pulse of the boating community can be gauged through Offshore Only. Latitude may be a new brand but the principles have been building hulls for decades, most notably Midnight Express.

Thanks XSNSX for that very frank reply. I live down in the Virgin Islands where we see pretty rough seas. There are several PPs in the area but I have only seen one Concept (a 30). I have always liked the look of the concepts but wondered why more people weren't buying them down here....could very well be that they simply don't handle the rough stuff as well.
