GPS question
I have a Garmin 182C mounted on my dash with a internal ant. Im redoing my dash and replacing the spedo with the GPS.
Has any one out there added an external antenna to that unit? And if so did it work OK?
And lets hear thoughts on a no speedo dash, should look a bit like a Formula dash. Do you guys like or no???

And the speedo numbers on the 182c is pretty big.

Re: GPS question
Should be no problem with the internal if it gives you data. If you just want the external unit I'll buy yours that you have now. Put a more informative gauge in the dash if you are going to use a GPS. Depth or water pressure, oil temp.................

Re: GPS question
No, no problems, Im moving the GPS from on the dash to into the dash. If you look at the pic, you will see where it is now. Im going to do my dash a bit like a Formula where the GPS is in the center of the dash and get rid of the speedo. So now the antenna will be behind the dash and will not be able to get signal, so Im going to put an external antenna where the unit is now.

Got it.......try it under the dash before you buy. It might work. If not time to spend some bucks. I don't think you can hook up an external antenna to that unit.

Re: GPS question
If it doesn't work and you decide to buy a new one let me know what you want for that one. I have been looking around for one and the 182C is the one I want.

Re: GPS question
All three of My GPS antennas (pucks) are mounted under the dash and work without a problem.
GPS Speedo
Chartplotter
Sirius
For each Antenna I put two stainless screws into the bulkhead wood Making a small shelf and wire tied them on right side up. Very easy and holds up in big water. I HATE EXPOSED ANTENNAS
