280 Silencer Info
I ran across an '03 with a 496HO and XR drive. I can't find much info on the boat so I'm asking for help.
Is anybody experienced with this boat on top speeds, cruise speed (26 pitch prop), rough water handling, hull good points/bad, same for interior fit/finish?
I was told some models may have a hook problem. Not sure if this is true or not, but any insight on this would be helpful. I can always check the boat with a 6' straight edge.
Lastly, this boat is listed at $60k. NADA doesn't do a great job defining values based on conditions or custom options, so is this about right for this year with the above drive package, cockpit cover, boat cover, silent choice, fire exting., dual batteries, upgraded stereo with 6CD changer and amp, spare ss prop, hydraulic single ram trim tabs with indicators, chrome controls, and heritage trailer to match? It's a fresh water boat with less than 100 hours.
First post and I'm already pimpin!!

Welcome!!
The 280 is a great boat. Handles the water just fine, cruises just fine and top speed is around 65 in fresh water. Some of the guys running in salt with light load and some minor tweaking saw 70. A lot of 280's were windscreen others had the windshield. I like the looks of the 280 better with the windscreen.
XR is an upgraded drive for that boat/engine. I owned a 99 280 and sold it in 2004. Was a bulletproof boat and trailer.
Have not seen what other 280's are going for but 60K seems a little steep.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look at it today. I agree, the $60k is steep. The guy bought a SeaRay Sundancer this spring and didn't trade it in. He getting nervous about getting some money to right ship his financial situation, so. . . . .
let's see how low he will go.

60k is out of line,,a deal would be in the mid 40s to low 50s depending on how clean and most importantl,,,how bad you want it.

I agree. The 29 is a lot more boat all around than the 28. A couple guys I talked with that had the 28 stated the 26 was a much better boat for ride quality. Speed was another story. I think you'd be missing the boat if you didn't at least look at the 29.
