I have a 2000 290FX. In getting the engines prepped for the season I thought it would be a good idea to check the impellers on the water pumps for wear. Since I am not a 3' tall contortionist with 5' arms, can anyone suggest how to pull and check these pumps without having to pull the motors?

Hellfish,
When I replaced the ones in my 290, I had the back panel (which supports the hatch lift) out. To remove this panel, unbolt the following: rear seat backing, battery cables to the switch, lower hatch support and a handful of screws holding the panel to the sides. I had this panel out to fit a sub-woofer box in below the bench seat so thought it was a good time to replace the impellers since they were right there in the open. This is also a good time to align the engines as well.
