Question Upgrading???

Looks like next year we will move up in size a bit. After owning a wellcarft Scarab, I must say have been very pleased with the ride and quality of the PQ. We went with the Conquest due to its larger cockpit, being I have 3 small childeren. Now after the 2nd year of boating and the kids loving it more than myself it maybe time for a move. Question??? Which model under 30' has a decent
size cockpit??? I've gotta have the space. And no to the SC model.

the 280 Silencer has a huge cockpit. About the size of most 30-32' boats. Plus it is a VERY nice riding boat.

Thanks Bill. I was hoping to hear that. seems most under the 30' range are just to small. How does it compare to the older 27 and 29???

Default 270 Laser

PQConquest,

I have a 270 Laser and love it. I have two small kids and there seems to be plenty of room. We often take friends out with a couple of there kids and manage pretty well. I am sure as everyone gets older space will be a bigger issue. I keep telling my friends they need to buy their own boat.

Back to the 270 I have the 454 Mag EFI 385 hp. With 100 gallons of gas and 4 adults and 4 kids it does 54, 55 mph on gps. This past weekend it did 58, 2 adults & 2 kids with 35 gallons of gas. I am sure it would do 60 with even less gas and all my crap out of the boat. I am currently playing with the props and going to get a labbed prop soon. A friend of mine has the 502 and its probably 5-6 mph faster. If you can find one with a 502 I would choose that motor becasue you can never have too much hp.

It handles the 2-3 foot waves of Lake Michigan very well. It could handle bigger water but that's not much fun. Nor, do I care to listen to the wife complain all day. I often cruise from Grand Haven to Muskegon or Holland and feel very safe on the water.

Basically the difference between the 27 & 29 is single motor vs. twin. The 29 will probably do 70 mph but you are going to have double the gas and maitenance bill. If money isn't an issue the new PQ 30 Revenge with twin 496 HO's does 78 -81 according to what I have read. It looks like and awesome boat.

If you boat on this side of the state and want to take a close look at a 270 or go for a ride sometime let me now.

Speed Demon, Thanks for the info. I'm heading up that way this weekend and hope to run across a 27. Not sure if it will be a good weekend to bring it up with the wife due to we had our 1st breakdown this weekend with family on board. NOT GOOD!! Starter went out of Friday night and than Saturday the drive stuck in the trailer position. Looks like the trim pump. So now I have to start all over on the larger baot deal. Never fails!!

We have owned both a 270 (454mag 385 hp) and a 290 (twin 454mag 385 hp) and with two kids I would choose the 290. The extra two feet is mainly in the cabin and you can tell. The setting area is bigger. It can also be equipped with a microwave and a fridge much easier than in a 270.

Don't get me wrong, we loved the 270. It is a great size boat for a single engine boat. The 290 however, with the twin 454's is a better mix of amenities for the wife and speed for you.

By the way, you can easily tube or ski behind both.

Good luck in your search.

Call me if you have any questions (309) 256-4152
