Profile 40V-lots of questions
Hey guys...getting real close to pulling the trigger on a new rig for this summer. Been looking at several other boats including Fountain and Black Thunder. Can anyone give me some insight on the 40V? I get the whole fact that the company is out of business....hulls have been known to crack etc. Can anyone put me in touch with touch with the guy who may have built the boat? It's a 2003. Trying to get an idea of what the boat will run top end how much it weighs etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Boats look pretty cool, just not sure if the cost savings it worth it over the long haul with regards to hold up, resale etc.
Thanks

He purchased every thing "profile" and started this company. I believe he also worked for profile at one time.
I am sure you already know, but just in case you do not...the 40 is the exact same boat as the 37, only stretched in the engine compartment for an optional stagger set up. When searching information on the 40, include the 37

If the 2003 that you are looking at is priced at $79k I think it is way too much. With genuine merc power it might be worth it, but would still be high IMO.
Resale value on a profile is one thing, reselling in general is another....they are a hard sell. The 1998 40 foot offered for $49k has been for sale for 2 solid years....2 years!
At that price you are at the asking price of Stepped bottom 38 fountains and 38 hustlers, with merc power an more freeboard.

I have no idea what that boat would run for speed. Not even close to a clue.
Personally that boat is worth $50k on a clean deal, that is just my opinion.
They have two 38 fountains 99, and 2000 on that same site for $69k,
And with deals like this http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o49725-en.html What does that make the profile worth?

I've been told by several people that these motors were done by Mercury up in WI. Are you saying they are not? Becuase of the valve covers? Also, I see your point to a degree, but the colors on that cig are pretty bad...it's a salt water boat...and with that hull and those motors is a 75MPH boat at best. I think the two boats are worth about the same....no?

As far as what that profile is worth, it is worth what the buyer that wants it will pay. If you like the boat and feel it is a fair price, have it. It only has to please you.
You can't compare a cigarette to a profile, you just can't The link was more to show you were the market is, 3 years ago 20 year old top guns sold for over 6 figures. IMO a boat buyer has to be concerned about resale today, unless you are liquid. Getting out of a boat today is not easy. Nothing personal again profile, they are a hard sell, even profile owners will agree.
The NRG link I sent you, click on the 38 model. The picture you see is a boat I looked at last year. It needed new vinyl and a good cleaning. Ha boxes, XRs, big n/a power and came witb the trailer. I could ha e bought it for 26 grand and still passed. The boat is a 2000 model and was listed for sale at 39k for 3 months.
It sounds like I have something personal against profile, or pier 57. But that is not the case, I am looking out for you. I like the boats, like the lines, 79k is just way tok much in today's market IMO

Understood. I respect what you are saying. I agree. 79 is too much. The boat is very clean and has very low hours. However, putting a number on it that is what a Pantera 28 is worth would be a bit low. If the motors aren't genuine needs I think it's 65 today. If they are, the motors and drives alone are $45k. The hull has to be worth more than $10k though. I know the boat sold for $135k less than 2 years ago. I wish I could find the original owner
