Default New to prop boats and a 26 Profile

Hi everyone. Well, we took the big plunge and bought our first prop boat in a 1994 26' Profile. For background we've been messing with small boats (18' Sanger, 18' Brendella and a 21' Daytona) with jet drives and a variety of motors up to a 500" with a intercooled blower. Since we live within a stones throw of the salt water, we really needed something that we could have fun in the bumpy water versus towing 3 hours to a lake where they didn't run us off due to noise.
So, what we finally took the plunge on is a 1994 Profile 26 with a basic unmolested mercruiser 454, freshwater cooled, bravo 1 with a 23P prop.

For the couple times we've had it out we love it and I already am looking forward to winter when I can pull it down and clean up some of the brackets/wiring.

The boat runs awesome going in and out of gear, starts at the hit of the key and idles and runs smooth. With that said (and assuming that the gauges are accurate), it tops out at 4400 rpm and on my phone 52.8. This is loaded to the max with coolers, people and 60 gallons of gas. Speed wise I'm fine with that BUT, I have zero trim. If I try any trim position other than full down, it seems to cavate and blow the prop. At the risk of showing my prop ignorance, I assumed that I would be able to have some trim capability. I will say that we blew thru some big chop from yachts over the 4th and this boat laughed at it. Just seems to me that I should have some trim capability for varying water conditions.

Thanks so much for any advice and thoughts you guys would be willing to share.

Okay, I've learned some more and once again have to remind everyone that I'm a rookie at this stuff. Whatching the speed closely I've learned that trim is VERY sensitive but definately does work. I've finally gotten it to 55.2 mph by lightly tapping the trim switch up and then letting the speed settle and if the speed goes up, tap up again till the speed begins to drop. Following that approach I've learned that the boat likes little changes instead of being heavy handed and giving it alot of trim at a time. Definately changes how the boat rides as well so it's clear that the trim is in fact working afterall.

I have a lot to learn...............john
