Donzi 38 Zx Prop Recommendations
ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH THIS BOAT, EQUIPPED WITH 500EFI's THAT CAN MAKE A RECOMMENDATION FOR PROPS TO MAXIMIZE CRUISE AND IMPROVE TOP END. HAVE TRIED 28 BRAVO I, JUST HITS THE REV LIMITER MAKING 75 MPH ON GPS & 30 BRAVO I MAKING GOOD CRUISE #s (50 @ 3400) BUT MOTORS WON'T PULL MUCH OVER 4800 RPM @ WOT (SEVERE OVERTRIM WILL ALLOW MOTORS TO REV & MAKE 74 MPH).
OPTIMUM CRUISE SETTINGS WITH DRIVES @ 2 1/2 -TABS @ 0 CREATE A SITUATION WHERE THE OUTBOARD OF TURN MOTOR IN A SLIGHT TURN WILL PICK UP 300 RPMS (HIGH DRIVE HEIGHT ?).
WHAT CURRENT PROP TECHNOLOGHY CAN MAKE SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS WITH THIS SET-UP?

Re: Donzi 38 Zx Prop Recommendations
I have a standard 38ZX (no kevlar/daytona) 2001 with 500EFI and standard Bravo I drives without extention boxes. With standard 28P Bravo I props I hit 75 @ 4900 rpm. Throttle-Up just reconditioned the props and turned them down to 27P. I have not tested the new props yet, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Is yours a Daytona edition? What year?

Numbers are GPS. 75 is maybe 1/3 tank of gas and only me onboard otherwise about 73 with full tank and many passengers I was told these boats like the Hydromotive P5X props but you need the XR prop shaft to handle them.

Yes, both the 38 ZR and the ZX do very well with the P5X. Especially in your case where you have a high slip. Even with a 5 blade you may need a drive spacer to get the most out of your boat.
With a spacer your cruise speed will increase, I would also expect an increase in your top end speed.
Are your props stock?

Re: Donzi 38 Zx Prop Recommendations
As Noted In Another Response Does The P5x Require An Xr Shaft?
What Results Can I Expect From A Change To The P5x ?
Would This Prop Be Hard On A Xz Drive With A Heavy Boat ?

Where is the prop shaft in relation to the bottom of the boat? Labbing the 30 Bravo 1 would give you the rpm you need and improve your top end some. This will not however help your slip issue.
Spacing down the drive and Labbing the appropriate Bravo 1 may reap the largest gains on the top end.
Trying a 5BL propeller will definitely help you though out the rpm band with your high slip %. Mid range will improve significantly. It may not give the biggest WOT number. You will need to determine your goals.

Re: Donzi 38 Zx Prop Recommendations
The P5X uses the same hub system as the Mercury props do. All you have to do is use the proper Mercury hub for the application and the P5X will fit the same as a Mercury prop will.
We have not had any issues with the P5X on XZ drives. The large prop shaft is ideally suited to 5 blade props. We have worked with Donzi on several ZX's, as well as the factory race boats, and with the proper drive height you will find that the P5X should yield the same or higher top end than a Bravo 1.
This past weekend we tested stock P5X's on the former Donzi factory F2 boat. The best set of 32 Bravo 1 lab finished race props they had ran the same top end speed as a stock set of 29 P5X's.
