Default Lab P5X's?

Do the Hydromotives P5X's respond well to labbing? I would like to have them labbed and add some pitch or cup.

I think the best way to answer your question is to look at the performance of your P5-X props now and see if we can improve upon it. Post your data and I will take a look at it.

Thanks Julie, BTW, I got the props from Throttle up late fall. I spoke to Will on the phone. He was very helpful. I will send props to you in couple weeks.

My set-up:

96' 38foot non-steeped scarab
625hp, XR's w/ -2shorties with 1" spacers added back
25" P5X's (non-labbed)
1/2+ load fuel, calm water
77.0 gps @ 5,400

Would like to maintain r's @ 5,400 and get some more bow lift if possible. Lost bow lift when we raised drive height.
Dont want to lose cruise and would like to pick up 1 or 2 up top.

Lab and add cup??

Duane,
I went for it my self, bought the shorties for my p-38
After we spoke I wasnt going to but i found a great deal with xr uppers!
Now all i need to do is find some props!Going out this weekend with a bunch to test!
Is the hydro the best prop youve found?

We are so close in setup it would be great to dial them in the same!
Did you ever go with standoffs?
Thanks,Justin

Justin , no stand-off boxs yet, although probably do in the future. The p5x's helped bring down the slip after raising the drive height. Happy with the cruise. Still have a little more slip than i would like(even with 1" spacers) when comming on plane...but not bad. Probably will pick up a little on top after lab work. Boats not in water yet. Couple weeks.

Take care

iamfaster,

Lab Finishing produces an increase in RPM. The P5-X propeller lab finished runs about 150-180 RPM higher after lab finishing the propeller. So you can expect your RPM to increase.

We have found the P5X's to require suttle changes to get the most out of the propeller. Large rpm or pitch changes can retard the performance. They run pretty good right out of the box.

think we will be able to add some cup for a little more bow lift. I figure it would bring the r's back down after the labbing???

Adding cup to increase the bow lift is not an uncommon practice. The downside is that it is a delicate balance to get the cup just right to optimize the top end while at the same time getting the bow lift you desire.

Since everyone likes a boat set up a little differently it may take a couple adjustments to get it just right for your liking.
