Ideal props for 2006 Donzi 38 ZR 525's?
Finally got a chance to take the new Donzi 38 ZR/525's out and quickly realized it's a total dog out of the hole. Very disappointing hole shot with 5 blade 31p herings. Any recommendations on other props to try with this boat. I happen to have a set of 30p Bravo I's, how would these work? Willing to sacrifice a little on top to pick up hole shot.

I would imagine a round ear type prop like a Bravo might be better with the high x-dim. Probably a labbed Bravo might be the best.

Donzi tends to mount the drives a little too high on the Zr's sometimes. What is your WOT rpm and speed?
Are your motors side by side or staggered?

The Zr's are set up for top end speed. Some prop slip when getting on plane is to be expected. Donzi does a good job setting the Zr's up, they actually spend the time testing the boat, trying different spacers and props for the best set up.
Keep in mind the guys who set the boat up are very familiar with the boats and set it up a certain way. It may not be the best set up for your style. Some minor adjustments could make a huge difference in the way the boat handles, more to your liking.
WOT numbers are very helpful to determine the current set up. We did the prop work on the Factory Super V and are familiar with the set up and capabilities of the boat.

The Factory boat ran both Hydro 5 blades and Hering 5 blades. The 6 blade props were just coming on the market and there really wasn't enough time to work with those props.
Drive height and weight play a very significant role in the performance of the boat.

What Hydro's would work best with the donzi? The p5 or p5x's? Also, what pitch in a stock Hydro p5x would the 31p Herings be equal to? The Herings are a semi-cleaver prop. Would the p5x's round ear design benefit the boat over the Herings? Or, in your honest opinion, can the Herings be improved on?

We have tried the P5X prop on the 38 ZR but only with the side by side engine configuration. They ran very well. I doubt they would work well on your boat due to the drive height. Donzi has spent quite a bit of time testing the ZR and the Hering is the best prop for it.
I would concentrate on the boat more than the props at this point. As far as recommending a pitch we would need your WOT rpm and speed to make an accurate suggestion.
If your problem getting on plane is the props "blowing out" that can be fixed by lowering the drives. If the motors are lugging when getting on plane that can also be addressed either through smaller spacers or prop work. The spacers may or may not effect your top end but if it's hole shot you want most they will address that issue.
