Carlson cvx 20 foot jet boat converting to 429

Ok I don't have this boat yet , but I am doing some trading for a 20 foot Carlson CVX Jet Boat, It was set up for a 460 ford but the engine is long gone. I would like to put in a 429 . This boat was a rescue buy it is in very poor shape and only got it because if I did not get it , the boat would of rotted into the ground. I also realize how rare they are.

Ok enough about the boat. I found a 429 industrial Ford engine with only 14000 original miles its price right and is complete. What I want to do is put in a hot cam and lifters up grade the valve springs and maybe put in the some roller tip rockers. I do not have deep pockets I am doing this boat on and extream budget I want to sell it when I am done. And in this bad economy who knows if that is going to happen.

I am reading that the industrial engines have a forged crank . Can I put and after marked cam in this engine and will it run 5000 RPM some times with out launching every rod in the engine? I have read these are low RPM engines designed for torque. I am getting conflictiing stories on these engines.

Can anybody out there shed some light on this? Like I said I am on a tight budged on this boat. Its rough but its rare. Thanks

Try posting this on performance boats.com or socaljetboats.com. There are a lot of jet boat guys on those sites that could give some good responses.

Cool boat and sounds like a fun project. I grew up on a CVX 20.

Go to River Daves Place and look up JBB . He is rebuilding this same boat in about the same starting shape. Think he is documenting the build over there.

If you need to call him pm me for the #.

With that engine what are you doing for exhaust? Did the original log type manifolds come with the boat. You can't use a car/truck manifold and the glasstron/Carlson's had an enclosed engine.

I used to have a cvx19 with a jet and a 455olds. I loved that boat.
