Hello all. I am working on a boat for a friend of mine. We are looking to upgrade the motor. The motor is a bravo 1 I believe, 330hp 454. Fuel injected. Does this motor have the 236 peanut port heads? Is a cam swap necessary to make any noticeable HP gains? I am considering pulling the heads, doing some mild port work, possibly milling the heads, installing larger valves. And better exhaust manifolds. Not to crazy about a cam swap if it involves dropping the oil pan. Does the ecu need upgraded for the mentioned modifications? Thank you for any input

is the motor a MPI or Magnum ?
If MPI, toss the heads and buy some 088 Magnums. Big ports, big valves.
If MPI, toss the whole intake and buy a Magnum with cool fuel
if MPI, toss the cam, .487" lift versus .582
If MPI, toss the crank, rods and pistons, as they wont handle much more power and revs over 5000. But a stock Magnum crank, dimpled rods and forged pistons will.
For the time and trouble youll spend trying to make the MPI work, youll probably end up going backwards. Pull the perfectly good running MPI out and find either a good used or new crate Magnum and drop it in.
