You know I have been one of your biggest fans as far as making these drives work.
Unfortunately you were up against the wall, behind the eight ball and backed into a corner from day one where these drives were concerned so I think it is getting about that time as well.

Ok who originally said they couldn't keep water out of these lower units?? I owe that man a beer.
Thought I had it licked, but today they proved me wrong again. Finally got em to stop leaking oil out a couple months ago, but I don't think Flex Seal could stop these fucers from filling up with water... Maybe if I fill em with distilled water, next check they will drain out clean gear oil. Well now we understand why they build truck transmissions for use in the desert.
72hr Soak Time.

These drives aren’t out there on other boats. This is probably the only set still in use. We could never get the water situation figured out. The best we could figure out is that the water is coming in through where the case splits in half.

I'll bet ya all a beer I find it tomorrow.. Gonna sink em in the pond and pressurize the cases. Guessing 150psi should do the trick..
I located a complete set of 6's to start changing the gear ratio in if we need em. So everyone keep looking for old trampolines setting around. The helicopters are easy, I see a couple Robinson's park about 1/4 mile from my hotel room window at the moment. They have a lifting hook point. Bet we can get Pete Boden to shoot some pics of the last two of these famous drives falling to their death from 1000ft. We can get a pool together on how high they bounce and cover the chopper fuel..

In all seriousness... I’d consider dropping them from, say 500ft, to ensure better chances of hitting the trampoline and that they don’t explode all by themselves during the time it takes to travel the 1000ft.

After the Weismann experience, we went to SCS drop boxes and Arnesons. Worked really well but at around 120 the boat was scary to drive. We kept the #6 holes all original again, just like with the Weismann setup because we knew if it failed, then our only option left was going to M8’s. So, we were back to making custom extension boxes. I used the Arneson to Bravo conversion as inspiration. Came out pretty nice, and the boat was a lot faster than any other setup, but we couldn’t tame it.

I like your pressure testing idea but IMO, unless your applying a 1k ft lb torque to them, w/giant wheels beating the hell out of them, while surfacing......., and steering the boat, adding side/torsional to the housings........
My guess is, you could probably hire a NASA engineer to find and correct the problem and they’d shake their head and decline 🤪

50ft Turbine Nortech vee bottom. Yes, I bought the drives from Gary. Flew out to Havasu, helped Vern put the pieces in crates and shipped them out.
