Took an engine on a little road trip last weekend to check out it's new home. Mounting plates are cut, offshore mounts relocated, now time to wrap up this plumbing job. Looks like both heat exchangers will be mounted towards the center stringer. Not enough room on the outboard sides for a 6"dia tube, the seawater pumps barely cleared. But turbos are setting high enough not to require any special traps or flaps.

Owe another big shout out to Will Smith for completing in 8hrs what would taken me a week to figure out. Next time these engines see this bilge, they'll have driveshafts attached...

More puzzle pieces..

Both engines are oil primed and close to buttoned up mechanically. The SAE spacer rings are modified and fitted to transmissions and rear mounting plates. A pair of 6" x 23" Lenco heat exchangers arrived yesterday, which need some paint. Along with all the small aluminum plumbing pieces from waterjet guy.

Now just need to build some mounting rails, and then find someone to bend all that SS tube to tie all these chiller pieces together. Hopefully in a way that fits between the offshore mounts and stringers. Yep, it's a 1000 piece puzzle without a picture on the box...

do they make a prop big enough for all that torque?

Default Back On Track

Boat was brought back up to Ohio last year where it's been tucked away all winter. We took a break last year after thickening up the center stringer and relocating the engine mounts to fit the duramax difference. You can compare these bilge upgrades in fist two pics below.

Now it's time to finish plumbing the engines, fire em up, and do a final fitting with all extra hardware installed. The biggest challenge has been fitting all these pumps and coolers where the lines clear each other. The bilge on this model vee doesn't allow for symmetrical mounting everything low on the engines where I wanted. While the seawater pumps and oil coolers clear, these 6" diameter Lenco heat exchangers both need to be mounter towards bilge center. At 58lbs each, I had to fab up some heavy duty custom hangers. Luckily I did find a good spot for the hamburger's oil filter bases, after a little modification on a bridgeport..

On the Port engine, the big heat exchanger fits nicely down along side of the seawater pump. A little tight clearance on stringer mount positions and couple cooling lines, but nothing a plasma cutter can't resolve..

On the Starboard side, things are a bit tighter. Between oil cooler to filter lines, fuel cooler lines, 1.5" pipe routed down from the charge cooler, and the electric coolant circulation pump, it's getting pretty crowded.

Very cool project. Not a big diesel fan, but I will say those duramaxes are purdy.
