Always good to know there are people out there not afraid to try something new & innovative and put in the time it takes to make it right…. No matter the “failures” along the way.

Not to side track this thread or step on any toes, but this has become the Diesel install thread. I really appreciate everything I have learned in this thread.

To add my project, a single engine Ford 6.0L diesel with a M7 1:1 drive.

So I found that the International trucks used this engine VT365 and has a rear plate that goes to a SAE 2 pattern.
Then I found a SAE 2 to SAE 3 adapter ring.
And finally a SAE 3 to Velvet drive plate.

I need to get a 6.0 manual flywheel and HD drive plate and figure out the spacing and bolt it all up.

I am using a M7 drive with 1:1 ratio.
I still need a #6 gamble and transmission.

I need a little help on the trans. I want it plug in, no drive shaft. What is the difference between the 71c and 72c?
I'll probably get the trans from BAM. Needs to hold about 1000 lb-ft TQ.

Who has a heavy duty drive plate?

Sorry for the questions but all my experience is with bravo stuff. The bravo is just not strong enough for the diesel power.

VT365 to sae2 to 3 adapter to sae3 to velvet drive.

Next is the exhaust manifolds.
The best I can tell the bore center on the 6.0L diesel is 4.56"
The BBC is 4.84". Only 0.28" difference.
So the center 2 cylinders will only mismatch by 1/8" and the 2 outside cylinders by 3/8".

So as this is so close, I think I can make an adapter plate to convert the 6.0 exhaust pattern to BBC pattern.
Then I can use any of the water jacketed BBC exhaust manifolds instead of custom one off CMI manifolds.

Any thoughts?

Last I spoke with Marc about his 1550 dry sumps he wasn't confident that they would handle the torque of a diesel in that range. 1000 ft lbs at 2000 rpm is much different than at 4000 rpms... There are guys trying it -- guess it depends on longevity... It's definitely the simplest way to go with your setup.
You might also be able to find a different bellhousing so you don't need the adapter plate.

Trick with the SAE adapter rings is getting the depth correct to match the shaft length. If you stack em, likely gonna be to deep to reach the damper assembly. They make all those in a flat plate, which is what I used. Guy used to sell em on eBay. Then I added a spacer ring to set the depth.

On way back to Sarasota to wrap up the box wrapping. Not much movement when I'm not around..

Thats what I was thinking.
So if I use the manual trans flywheel and not a flexplate, I can machine it and add/weld on any spacers needed, 1-2", to get the drive plate in the correct position/depth to connect to the trans.

And I need to call BAM for some of the needed parts. The sae3 to Velvet drive was off ebay but actually came from him.

If you look back about a 2yrs on this thread, you'll see how I measured everything. These transmissions are same dimensions as Velvet or BAM. So you need to mock everything up a few times to figure where they land. The input shaft is not very long, so you have to get everything set just right.

Cobra Marty -- Might want to start a new thread on this to help keep things seperate and easy for others to follow along with what is happening on each project...;-) Just a thought.
