1985 scarab transom replacement
Hey all I’m new to the site as a member but have been searching it for years. I am reaching out for some help. I have a 1985 scarab 1 that needs a new transom. I’ve searched and searched but can’t seem to find the answers I’m looking for. I’ve seen some guys just cutting out the inner liner, doing the replacement, and glassing everything back in. I was going to go the other route and remove the top cap but have a question I can’t seem to find the answer for. That is once I remove the top cap will the engine compartment inner liner, and floor come out so I can get to the stringers and transom. Any info would be great and thanks in advance

the 21 scarab has a full hatch/ motor well inner liner,,,glassed in bottom with bonding compound before top deck installed
so will not lift out as a whole
I have a glass shop and replaced a transom in 1 yrs ago,,,,
1nce motor is out and all components remove from transom,,,
I used 3" cut off wheel and mini air jig to cleanly cut off the liner and peel off of transom carfully not to crack it up
then after transom replaced put back on with the last transom layer still wet and screwed and wedged to hold in place and even
then reseamed and gelled to make look original for customer
very expensive route but kept the nice finished look of the liner
that liner is nice to keep well clean but hell to replace transom
less expensive route is to cut liner off transom,,replace transom then just finish out with gelcoate and run a bead of sealer around liner to new transom
still looks good with a quality replacement job
so will not lift out as a whole

Awesome info and I do appreciate it. Saves me the letdown and work of separating the top cap to find out the liner won’t come out. I’ll go that route just cutting the liner from the transom. Thanks again for the info guys.
