Default 454 to SSM II restoration

In advance I am new to offshore boats. I am trying to put a 1984 Excalibur back together. The boat has Speedmaster 2 drives and we have a pair or stock 454 motors. The motors do not have transmissions. We are looking for whatever parts we need to connect the engines to the drives. I assume that we need bell housings, transmissions, and driveshafts for a start. Any parts or advise out there would be much appreciated. We are on a tight budget and looking for good condition used parts

My first idea is if you are on tight budget, dont use Ssm2!
they seemed fragile and once broken, you might end up having to swap to ...trs or konrad since no parts are easily found! That will bite your budget big time imo !

Speedmaster 2's use TRS transom assembly.
You will need BorgWarner trans with TRS tailstock , Bellhousings, trans coolers. No driveshaft necessary, drive yoke plugs directly in to trans tailstock.

The later model crescent SSM 2's lasted two racing seasons behind twin 575hp bbc's in my 5000lb Magnum 28.The older, non crescent drives worked fine on high h/p small blocks, but didn't like torque....

Jeff32 is right, just find a pair of TRS's , they're pretty cheap ( I have one for $500 in great mech cond). They work fine with mild 454's...

Thanks Jeff32, we thought we would use SSM II drives because they came with the boat. If we blow them up we are no worse off than when we started. This whole thing will be a learning experience and a good education doesn’t come cheap
