My friend bought a Scarab, where it says Scarab III on the side. As we measured, the boat is 37 feet long. What type of a Scarab is this boat. Can it be a 38 and what year will it be.
When and how long have those been built?
Thank`s for any advice,
Michael

where are you measuring it from? Scarab 3s are 34' but if you included the integrated swim platfrom in your measurment it might ad on the extra length.

after 89 they were called the 34' scarab excel. I think they made a few changes to the hull. They started production of the 34' in teh early eigthies. maybe 83 or 84.

Check the front porthole windows. If they're sort of football shaped (like <_> ), it's probably an 86 or newer. If they're more rectangular (like this /___/), it's an 85 or older.

Wouldn't it be easier to check the HIN # (Hull Identification Number)? It should be on the transom or in the engine compartment. The last three or four numbers indicate the month and year of manufacture. i.e. 985 = September 1985. Just my $.02 from a Baja owner lookin' in.

87 and up use the oval shape port holes. 86 and down use rectangle and have alot of teak. 87 and up no teak. And yes the easiest way to see what year it is would be the HIN # . As for hull changes there where no changes to the hull mold. the 34 always used a molded bolt on platform that started with the 88's. True length is 33 in change without the molded swim platform. The 34 was used from 83 through 94. 89 was the last year it was called the Scarab III. No changes made to the hull, just the deck. The 34 ninja is a scarab III with a flat deck. In The 87's the dash panal is a molded bolt on unit. If you take it off, the origanl 83-86 dash thats molded into the deck is still there. Kind of cool I thought. If you think about it in a production line point of view it would cost wellcraft money to change molds of a hull. So the 34 hull remained unchanged from 83 - 94.
