26 scarab excel
any other 26 excel owners out there? I have an 87 with a 365 hp 454 alpha. wondering about best speeds, prop selection for the alpha, typical problems (besides the alpha) and if anyone has done a bravo conversion, and what that might entail for engine mount and drive heights. Is this also the same hull design as the CV? Thanks

Re: 26 scarab excel
i haveon eand i did a bravo conversion. The conversion itself is easy as pie. However its a pain in the ass as you have to pull your engine and strip everythign off the transome, then drill 2 holes and bolt the bravo stuff on. I installed an offshore mount on through bolted "L" brackets whole it was out as the stock engine mounts are kinda crappy.

Re: 26 scarab excel
i;m down on long island about 45 minutes from NYC. I se eyou're from around seneca lake Its nice up there and i always wanted ot run my boat there. I'm up that way a few times a year to run formula cars at the glen.
As for my boat it has basically a merc 525sc, 454 .30 over with a small blower, she made 550hp on the dyno. The bravo itself didn't seem to make it run any better, its just not abotu to explode at any given moment like the alpha was. I really havn;t use dit much since i redid the boat maybe 10-15 hours on it in a few seasons (didn; get it out once this year). I never got it dialed and there is still alot to be had with tht right prop, So far the best i've seen it about 70.

Re: 26 scarab excel
Hi. My brother have a 87 scarab excel 26. We are curious about this boat. It has 'Miami Vice' colours and a 350 Mag. Hull ID is: WEL P2698 K687.
Can you help with pics of a similar boat with the right stripes, or tell us who can help?

Best Regards

I also have the same scarab with the same striping but in burgandy instead of turquoise. I have the 330hp alpha 1 set up. 21P prop 3bl. It ran 52mph. I have now removed the motor and going to fit a 350mpi on a Bravo. It should run about the same speed. Powerboat magazine in 1988 tested the 28excel with the 365Hp and it ran 58mph. Same hull and about 100lbs heavier. So I think 58 to 60 is around the norm.
I had a crack half way running down the front of the windscreen when I bought the boat. So I removed the stainless rail from around the top of the screen and cut the screen down roughly half in height. Then sanded and polished the edges. It greatly improved the lines of the boat as the original screen is far too high.
